In which the blogger, in the company of The Splendid Wife and Eyebrow
Girl, The Hound Supreme, wish anyone who might chance upon this page
the very best holiday season that it's possible for them to have. All the
best from The Splendid Wife's Country Retreat out here in the windswept
East Of England!
ps;
And, just to prove that all things are possible, might I present a gift
of gardening socks which it actually made me smile to receive?
Take care!
Merry Xmas to you too mate, and all the best for the new year
ReplyDeleteHello there! Thank you very much indeed, and, of course, the best of times are wished for you and yours at this end, or rather edge, of the British isles :)
ReplyDeleteDoes "gardening socks" have some kind of connotation in Scotland that I'm missing? Or are they literally socks you wear to work in the garden?
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays to you, too, and all the best!
Wonderful socks, marvellous picture. A fantastic day to you, and all your readers!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteAnd those are, indeed, some stupendous socks!
Hello Historyman:- It would cheer me up no end - and I'm pretty content today as it stands - to discover that gardening socks carries a different meaning to "the socks I wear when gardening". But I fear that it's no more than the latter.
ReplyDeleteThe best of holidays to you sir, and I hope you're well on your way to shaking your recent encounter with biological strength anti-X-Mass :)
Hello Martin:- Where else can a blogger go to share his X-Mas socks and have their value appreciated? Thank you, Martn :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your Christmas season is a splendid one. My very best to you and yours :)
Hello cerebus660:- Ah, the community of socks! It's a good community to belong to.
ReplyDeleteI'll enthusiastically return your wish of a merry christmas for myself and mine with the same for you and yours!! :)
Merry Christmas, Colin, to you, the Splendid Wife, and the Hound Supreme! It's very nice to see these photos. May 2012 be the best year ever for both you and your family!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, and to all an Ewing Dredd!
ReplyDelete- Charles RB
Hello Julian:- Here am I, just coming to the end of Christmas, having sniffled my way through 'The King's Speech', and you've hours of the day left :) I hope the day has and will be a fine one. Thanks for your kind good wishes, and I hope 2012 is a splendid year for you and yours too :)
ReplyDeleteHello Charles:- Mr Ewing's Christmas Dredd tales are indeed part of my own personal X-Mas traditions! I may have missed the privilege of the Eisner Spirit Christmas tales, but I'm glad to be around for AE's modern day equivalents.
ReplyDeleteThe best of holiday seasons to you, Charles!
Hello, Colin.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great Christmas day!
Hello Miquel:- You know, I had a quite excellent Christmas Day, thank you. But boy will the dieting and exercising have to start again A.S.A.P.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I hope the season's passed with a fine time being had by you and yours :)
Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHello Sally:- Thank you! And a Merry Christmas to you and your family, the splendid pets included, of course :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Crimbo Col and here's to a New Year with lots more interesting comics.
ReplyDeleteHello Emperor:- Thanks! And a merry Crimbo back at you.
ReplyDeleteLots more interesting comics? Yes, please!
"Hello Miquel:- You know, I had a quite excellent Christmas Day, thank you. But boy will the dieting and exercising have to start again A.S.A.P."
ReplyDeleteUrgh, tell me about it! I spent three hours at the gym this morning. And there's still New Year's Eve to come. The holiday season should be more spaced out, you know. New Year's Eve should take place in the middle of the year. I'd give a person more time to get back in shape.
Merry Boxing Day (I'm a bit late to the party I see).
ReplyDeleteNow if you'll excuse me, I must get back to an excellent present I recieved, the collected original stories of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... okay, I actually have to go to work, I just wanted to brag about the Turtles book.
Enjoy the holidays Colin!
Hello Miguel:- I know, I know. It shouldn't be possible for a body to pack on the pounds as I have over the last three days. Still, I fear three hours down the gym would be the death of me. But it's back to 35 minutes on the exercise bike tomorrow listening to the likes of the Word Podcast.
ReplyDeleteAnd then the last of the cake, perhaps ...
Hello Isaac:- And I believe I'm in time to return your Boxing Day best wishes too. In fact, you've got a fair degree of the 26th left over on the colder side of the Pond.(It's the mildest Christmas here in 90 years, they say. Nature's gone so loopy that The Splendid Wife actually collected a bunch of blooming roses today. If this was a John Christopher novel, that'd be the sign that the end was night.)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Turtles! I have a genuine fondness for the best of b'w comics of that period. Stig's Inferno anyone?
Merry Christmas to you and yours good sir!
ReplyDeleteHello Emmet:- It's certainly been a kind season so far. I hope you and your nearest and dearest are having a splendid holiday season too :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Late Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHello Smitty:- Thank you! And the best of the season to you and yours too :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, since it's the holidays and the theme is things we're thankful for...
ReplyDelete2000AD has been going through fits getting on schedule with single issues over here and as a result I got my latest 4 issues (1759 - 1762) all in a go.
The page turn of 2 to 3 in Low Life pt 12 may very well be my favorite modern comics moment ever. To have the insanity of the moment in a nine panel grid open up to the clarity of those 2 glorious panels on the next page is the ur of STORYTELLING. I am framing it and sorry if you'd already discussed it here.
I don't want to spoil it more than I have already for anyone but I wanted to let you know I may never have seen it if not for your blog.
Also, "Behold Dirty Frank's enforced pacifism." may be the line of the whole comic.
Hello Smitty:- "...but I wanted to let you know I may never have seen it if not for your blog."
ReplyDeleteThank you, Smitty! That's a lovely to say. And Low Life is, as you say, SUCH a wonderful comic strip that it's an absolute pleasure to share it.
You've picked the right moment to jump onto 2000ad, you really have. Ever since you said that you were looking forward to picking it up, and ever since I tried to make sure that I hadn't been unfair in hyping up expectations, the comic's gone from strength to strength. The Christmas issue was a wonderful doorstop of an experience. There are grounds for considering it the single best and value-for-money anthology of the year. In fact, I can't think of anything at all that comes close to it. Huzzah.
"Also, "Behold Dirty Frank's enforced pacifism." may be the line of the whole comic."
I'd love to see a lil'red'book of Dirty Frank's various pithy sayings. I'd buy dozens and give them out as presents.
All the best, Colin! It's a true pleasure to see all of you looking so happy together.

ReplyDelete(revisiting some of the 2011 posts)
Hello Brian:- Thank you, and my very best wishes to you and yours too!
ReplyDeleteThere has indeed been alot of laughter going on in the state rooms and corridors of the Splendid Wife's country estate this Christmas. I can't tell you how grateful I am for that good fortune.
Hello Cedric:- Thank you! That's very kind of you to suggest. I hope the season is going well for you and yours.
